Callum Davidson made two changes, one of which was enforced, after St Johnstone's 1-0 defeat to Hibernian at Easter Road before beating Tayside rivals Dundee 3-1 at McDiarmid Park in their last Scottish Premiership match. Jamie McCart was shown two bookings against the Hibees, and therefore had to sit the Tayside derby out. Hayden Muller also dropped to the bench, the defenders being replaced by Lars Dendoncker making his first Saints start. Liam Craig became Saints' record appearance holder with a staggering 442 matches in blue and white. Stevie May also entered the fray, sealing the deal for Saints just after half time after Chris Kane ended his drought with a brace. David Martindale made three changes to the Livingston team that made it back-to-back league losses following their 3-0 defeat to Hearts at Tynecastle with a 1-0 home loss to St Mirren prior to the international break. Club captain Nicky Devlin made way at right back, as did midfield duo Adam Lewis and Ben Williamson. In came Jackson Longridge at left-back, Stephane Omeonga in midfield and Alan Forrest on the left flank. Andrew Shinnie scored Livi's last league goal, the winner over Celtic. Since then, the Lions have failed to score in three matches in all competitions, which includes elimination in the Premier Sports Cup to Rangers and league losses to Hearts and St Mirren.
